Ways to Recycle in Your Office

As more businesses begin to focus on sustainability and efficiency, many of them are starting to look into new ways to recycle in the office. Recycling paper and used ink cartridges are two ways that large and small businesses can lessen their environmental impact. It can also save money. Here are a few ways to recycle in your office:

Curbside/Drop Off Recycling

Most used printer paper can be recycled through your standard curbside pickup system. If you’re a small or large business that has curbside pickup, you should be able to recycle printer paper or envelopes. You won’t have to worry about things like taking out the staples.

However, if your business doesn’t have curbside recycling, you can look into nearby drop-off boxes or stations that will take your recycled printer paper. Just be sure to check beforehand to see if they have any rules for preparing printer paper for recycling. Certain locations won’t accept shredded paper or require you to sort it by color.

Print On Both Sides Of The Paper

One of the best ways to recycle used printer paper is to reuse it before you send it off to be recycled. Most inkjet or laser printers can be configured to print double-sided without the ink bleeding through. If you’re able to print a large stack of documents double-sided, you can cut the amount of printer paper you use by half.

Return Or Donate Printer Cartridges

Recycling used ink cartridges is just as important as recycling paper. One of the easiest ways to recycle ink cartridges is by returning them to your office supply retailers. Check with the office supply stores closest to your building and see which ones will accept recycled ink and toner cartridges.

There are also plenty of programs that will even give you money back in return for recycling cartridges. Cartridges for Kids partners with businesses across the country to offer money for recycled ink cartridges. Many businesses, both large and small, use this as an opportunity to raise extra funds for the business. Just make sure that your ink cartridges are in good condition before returning them.

Refill or Purchase Remanufactured Cartridges

Some businesses choose to refill cartridges on their own to save on waste and money. Refill kits can be purchased online, however, the refill process can be time-consuming; taking someone away from valuable time actually doing work that matters.

Your business could also save waste outside of your company by purchasing remanufactured ink for a fraction of the cost. These remanufactured cartridges should only be purchased from a dealer you trust. A bad cartridge could be a total waste of money or could even damage your printer. Buy remanufactured ink from the right dealer and save yourself up to 40% on ink or toner.
